What I liked

It was amazing to learn about Intel development and manufacturing processes. I enjoyed just being exposed to the behind-the-scenes work in an industry that I want to go into. My manager was supportive, and I expanded my skillset while there. Also, all the interns had a great community together.

What I wish was different

Lots of the intern programming was virtual, and I wish more intern events happened in person. However, I think some of that was due to Intel's current market positions, so I bet that will improve in the future.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask employees questions and connect with them! While I was there, I tried to meet and talks with as many current employees as possible to learn about their career experiences or advice. I found their thoughts to be very valuable, and they were all happy to share the time. I think Intel definitely has a culture that cares about your personal career, so take advantage of that.

What I liked

Meeting and interacting with different interns and managers. Also, I liked the independent work style and making connections within the company. Intern organized events were very fun as well.

What I wish was different

Nothing really. Loved every part of it.

Advice

Don't be afraid to talk and connect with others, including full-time employees. Make sure to try your best on every piece of work to set a good example for others and your manager.

I think the biggest piece of advice I can share is that you need to develop your ability to advocate for yourself. If you don't its really easy to get lost or left behind.

It was 100% remote which made it harder to connect with my coworkers and other interns

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

What I liked

The flexibility and inclusion among the Intel network and community. Your manager will ask you what your passion and future career direction you would like to take and tailor your internship to that. Being a large global company, Intel values a variety of backgrounds and skills. You will meet interns from all over the US collaborating in fellowship and taking part in different activities provided by the Intel Intern Program. There is constant support from your peers and leaders to make you feel welcomed among the Intel community.

What I wish was different

Due to covid restrictions over the summer, the internship was fully remote. It is different in a sense working from home, but still convenient to fit your schedule among your personal schedule. Thankfully, I have another offer to come back on campus next summer to experience the internship face-to-face.

Advice

Take advantage of what the company has to offer. It may sound broad, but there is so much to learn and different skills you can achieve from an experience like this. Network with others in the company! It will help you leverage some future opportunities for growth and increased salaries. Don't pass up on the opportunity.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more of an opportunity to connect with my direct team. It was difficult partly because I was working remotely all summer, but I think they still could've put more of an effort to connect.

Advice

Go to events and make use of the resources available at a large company.

Go for it! I was hesitant to apply for this internship thinking “oh there are plenty of other people more qualified than me who are applying” yet, I trusted myself and tried my hardest during the interviews. Technical knowledge can only get you so far. Instead, the most valuable skill is being able to adapt and think on your feet. You will feel out of place but it’s normal! You are an intern, you are there to learn and expand your skills, just take a deep breath and try your hardest!

What I liked

It was a great experience with multi-tasking different real world projects. I was able to develop my project management skills and learn some event planning skills. It was great to network.

What I wish was different

I wish that they were more transparent about offers in the beginning and how it worked until they told us later in the internship.

Advice

When you have meetings with others, make sure you create a PowerPoint and have a list of questions ready so that you are prepared and organized.

I liked the exposure to industry that the internship has provided. It has opened my eyes to how different applying engineering skills is from studying engineering. It has also reinforced my desire to be an engineer and continue down this career path.

What I liked

They were flexible with my schedule and I learned a lot her.

What I wish was different

I wish that was a better way of training new people. We just get a computer and they have you doing web base training for the first month or two. Most of this stuff you're only going to be able to learn it by doing it.

Advice

Make sure to ask for help if you need it. Thats very important. People are more than willing to help you.

Student Process Engineer

What I liked

Very good company to work for, lots of opportunities and resources. They are flexible with students and help to foster professional/technical growth.

What I wish was different

I didn't know very much about the work I would be doing before starting, it would have been preferred to been told ahead of time. The application was for a general position, but each intern was placed into very different departments/roles - it would have been nice to have a choice or at least a heads up on where I would be going (I didn't know what department/role I would be in until I showed up to orientation the first day).

Advice

Just keep looking for work, the engineers/technicians/managers are too busy to be paying attention to you so if you don't keep advocating for yourself to get more work experience and to assist with projects, then you'll end up doing nothing and wasting everyone's time.
